Patisserie on Fourth | 11/29/2011
Tucked away in a downtown Bismarck storefront is a unique small business, where a little bit of culinary magic turns everyday commodities into homemade pastry delights. Patisserie on Fourth has been serving up sweet snacks for three years, and proprietor Anna Dockendorf says the capital city has been a treat to work in.
"I opened the bakery in downtown Bismarck because it was a good location," said Dockendorf. "It`s right across the street from a bridal shop and some jewelry stores, so we can do wedding cakes and it`s all kind of right downtown there.
Dockendorf came to Bismarck from her native Minnesota at the age of 21, and opened her first business, Wildflower Chocolates. About a year later, she opened Patisserie on Fourth, where she and her staff apply their pastry prowess to a variety of products.
"We do all sorts of cakes and desserts, bars and stuff. We do it to order, we have it in the case every day, too. We don`t have a set menu for anything, just because we like to try a lot of different things. For the most part, you can get about anything to order," added Dockendorf.
Patisserie also serves breakfast and lunch each weekday, they cater private parties, and of course, they bake to order.
Dockendorf said, "For desserts and stuff, we do a lot of Christmas cookies, a lot of fudge and bars and truffles and that sort of thing for Christmas.
And with the holiday season in full swing, December should be a sweet month for this little Bismarck bakery.
Next week, Jim tells us about a downtown Bismarck business that has quickly outgrown its space.
