A boutique in downtown Bismarck has been giving customers visions of sunny beaches and a carefree lifestyle. For the owner of Hey Ocean! the reception from the public has been equally sunny. Michelle Kaufman has almost a year under her belt. After bouncing around both California and Washington state, she decided to move back and open her own store.
"Just something about that idea of the ocean, the colors, the idea with the theme that goes with it is something I missed and just wanted to bring a little of that back here."
Kaufman opened the store on Broadway Avenue last June. Since then, she says she`s met a number of faithful customers. "I thought it was going to be a big challenge marketing downtown and getting people to get out of their car and come into a single shop and it turns out once people know we`re here, they`re more than willing to do that."
The store sells mainly summer apparel but also features an extensive winter collection. "Things you won`t find in any of the chain stores, and everything from your really reasonable basics to your little higher end boutique items and we only carry a few pieces of each style."
