A Cheap Thrill Costume

The scariest night of the year is approaching. And if you or your kids want to be dressed to kill, you certainly don`t have to dig deep to pay for it.

"Some of our decorations go from 25 cents and up. Our costumes, the cheapest one is probably three dollars up to 15 dollars," said Seeds of hope Manager Lisa Feist.

From accessories to entire outfits for kids and adults, Seeds of Hope is an affordable option for families shopping on a budget.

"You can spend three dollars and the kid outgrows it, it`s not that big of a deal. And you can donate it back if you like," Feist said.

Not far away, Dakota Stage Theater is cleaning out decades worth of costumes and wardrobe with a special sale on Saturday. That includes the festive, the rustic and the furry.

"We want to get rid of it. We want to get rid of everything, so no the pricing is a no-brainer. We`re just trying to put things as affordably as we can because we want them to leave the building," said Dakota Stage Executive Director Amber Bernhardt.

If you`re looking to rent but not buy, there are places in town that`ll help you, such as Sleepy Hollow Productions. They outfit dozens of plays every year and they have lots to pick from, such as an Egyptian pharaoh getup. And yes, they do have a matching Cleopatra.

"Clowns and flappers and gangsters and some superheroes and things like that, that you can come pick up, walk right out the door and it`s really inexpensive," said Sleepy Hollow Director of Productions Dan Walstad.

With enough advance notice, Sleepy Hollow staff can even piece together custom outfits for those hoping to avoid a trip to a box store.

"Either have difficulty finding what they`re looking specifically for or don`t want to have to spend 50 to 60 dollars on a very poorly made costume you can purchase that sometimes don`t even last through the evening," Walstad said.

Sleepy Hollow rents out many of the costumes for the evening for around 20 dollars. A chance for you and your young ones to scare or entertain while saving a little change in your pocket.

The Dakota Stage costume and collectibles sale opens at 8:00 Saturday morning at the theater on Main Ave.
