Hi, I'm KFYR-TV Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lawrence and I want to tell you about a fantastic new piece of technology designed to keep you and your family safe during severe weather.

It's an exclusive KFYR-TV weather product that pinpoints warnings specifically for your home, not an entire county. WeatherCall has cutting edge technology that delivers the fastest, most precise severe storm warnings to your telephone, cell phone and e-mail at any time, day or night.

Information

Many counties in the First Warn viewing area are a thousand square miles or larger. Dangerous storms are often less than 200 square miles. In the past, severe weather warnings were issued for entire counties, creating uncertainty as to exactly where the threat really is. The National Weather Service (NWS) now uses a new and much more precise method to define a warning area called STORM-BASED WARNINGS that reduces the size of a warning area by an average of 75%.

WeatherCall combines this new, much more precise warning method with robust emergency telephone notification. Using computerized mapping, WeatherCall matches the danger area defined by the NWS with your address. If your address is within the danger area of the weather warning, Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lawrence will deliver the warning message to the phone numbers you register, and also send you an email if you provide one.

Burleigh County ’s combined 1,633 sq. miles are under a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING .

The actual warning area is 538 square miles.

Important things to know about WeatherCall before you sign up:

WeatherCall is a very precise storm warning service, which you can subscribe to for only $9.95 per year. When you register, your home or business will be assigned a latitude/longitude value which is stored in the WeatherCall computers, along with your telephone numbers and email addresses (if you have them). It is very important that you understand that it is your responsibility to provide as accurate a location as possible when you register

You MUST provide a PHYSICAL STREET ADDRESS. If you live outside city limits, you are able to plot your location on a map. Our system cannot locate post office boxes, rural routes, mail stops, etc. If you do not know your physical address, you can follow the steps provided and attempt to accurately locate yourself. You can also contact your local US Post Office or county clerk’s office, email the WeatherCall Customer Care team for help info@weathercall.net or call 1-800-260-6695 for assistance.
You may register land line or cell phone numbers.
You may register up to 3 telephone numbers and 3 email addresses for each location.
You may have the warning sent to a digital cell phone via SMS text messaging. For instructions, visit our FAQ page.
Tornado warnings are mandatory. You may choose to also receive severe thunderstorm phone calls and/or emails, and flash flood warnings via email and SMS text messaging.
When you register, send yourself a test call and store the incoming number on your phones naming it WeatherCall so your caller ID will display a storm warning call.
Make sure you say "hello" to make the voice-activated message begin.
IMPORTANT: Make note of the incoming number of this test call. You should save this number as "FIRST WARN WeatherCall," so it will display on your caller ID as an important incoming storm warning call.
