Sheridon Dewald has seen the basketball court quite a bit as an Imperial, that`s because she`s been a varsity starter before she was even a freshman.
"Dewald: Ever since 8th grade, all of us girls we came in the morning to shoot around before school started. In the off season we all work really hard we all go to camps open gyms. This group of girls I`ve never seen any team work as hard as we do."
In the past 3-seasons, the second team all-state performer helped lead the Imperials to a district title and a regional final appearence but it was last year when a severe knee injury put her basketball future in question.
Dewald: "I tore my acl last year and I had two surgeries this summer. I had my first surgery and that one failed so I had to have a second surgery. I had to drive up to bismarck 3 times a week and it was a lot of work. 2 hours of therapy each day and you just have to stay dedicated."
Brianna: " Sheridon is a great player. Ever since I was littler Sheridon has always been the driver, the runner, and to see her get hurt last year. it was a big hole in your heart pretty much. your missing one the most important players of your team."
Lehr: " Sheridon is a very confident player even last year with a torn acl she was still a 2nd team all state player. she is a complete package as far as basketball players go."
Dewald was averaging 16-points and 6-rebound a game before the injury and when she returned she had to change her game.
Dewald: "When I was younger I was more of a driver and that has slowed me down. my knee has slow me down that way I cant do the moves I use to be able to do so I mean I`ve had to work on outside and being more of a team player, passing to other girls getting other girls involved. "
Dewald and the Imperials have been on the cusp of the state tournament the past three years, losing in the region championship one year to eventual state champion Kidder County and twice to Linton-HMB, last years Class B runner up. But Dewald feels this is the year the Imperials will break through.
Dewald: "Our ultimate goal is state we`ve been wanting it for so long. state would be just a dream come true for all of us."
Dewald says her favorite memory as an Imperial so far came in her sophomore season when Napoleon went undefeated all the way to a district championship. The Imperials is hosting Central Prairie tomorrow.
