"I love the game, so I just play as hard as I can, and it`s got me to where I am now."
Ewoniuk is the starting running back for the Heart River Cougars. He`s one of the shortest running backs in Class A, but he hasn`t fallen short piling up the stats on the field.
"Number one, he`s really shifty, number two, he works really hard in the offseason and he`s an excellent pass receiver, so you get a lot of things going with him and he`s got a big heart and really wants to win," said Heart River head coach Dave Hendrickson.
"I hit the weight room pretty hard this summer, and I gained 15 pounds so now I`m 145, and I use my speed to kind of hit them harder then they hit me so it doesn`t hurt as bad," added Ewoniuk.
The senior running and corner back had 30 touchdowns last season and in week one of this season he set the single game school rushing record with 245 yards on the ground.
"It`s a great experience to have somebody like Seth on your team," said fellow senior running back Cole Hecker. "He and I go at it all the time. Every drill we go as a hard as we can against each other. We`ve always been really competitive with each other. We just want to make each other better."
Ewoniuk was named first team all region and second team all state after last season`s performance, but this shifty back excels in other sports too, qualifying for five events in track in field including 7th place finishes in the 100 meters and long jump events.
"The guys, they always give me crap cause I`m always going as hard as I can even in practice in the simplest drills," said Ewoniuk. "I`m just giving 100 percent all and I think that`s why what I`m doing to day shows for it."
The Cougars see this year`s team as one that will alter the school record books, and it helps having a teammate like Ewoniuk carrying the ball.
Ewoniuk and the Cougars have a big one this Friday night as Heart River hosts 5th rated Hazen.
