Johnson Ready For Nationals | Video

| 3/5/2013

Some national championships will be handed out this week in Alabama and U-Mary wrestler Trevor Johnson hopes to bring one back to Bismarck. The junior transfer from NDSU has won the super regional each of his first two seasons with the Marauders.

Johnson reached the semifinals at nationals a year ago, but then lost three matches in a row and finished sixth.

"It was definitely disappointing, and I know now not to push it so hard, cutting weight at the beginning of the year, getting down to 41 right away," said Johnson, who will wrestle at 141 pounds. "It`s a lot of motivation knowing just that second day last year. I think about it quite a bit."

"Making the semis, I expected him to last year and I think he did as well," added head coach Ben Berogan. "We knew it would be a tough match, but definitely his last two matches didn`t end up the way that he or I wanted them to last year, so I think this year he`ll be looking to finish strong."

The National tournament will be Coach Berogan`s final with U-Mary. He is stepping down after the season and moving with his family to Fargo.
