Garrison vs. Shiloh Basketball | Video

Lee Timmerman | 3/1/2013

Seven are in the "B" and the eighth Class-B boys basketball team will join them tonight. Garrison and Shiloh Christian play for the Region-5 championship tonight at the Civic Center. The Troopers pulled off one of the bigger surprises in the state on Tuesday when they beat seventh ranked Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky in the semi-finals.

"I think the biggest thing was our defensive effort. We`ve been solid defensively the second half of the season and we came out and we played a great game. We help Turtle lake to fewer points then they`re used to and we were able to keep some of their top guys down a little bit and that was enough for us to get a win," said Garrison head coach Jason Mattheis.

"We boxed them out and we got a couple boards and on the offensive side we found the open people and made the shots when it counted," said Garrison junior Luke Gehring.

The Troopers outscored the Trojans 11 to 1 in the final three minutes of the victory. A victory that`s been a long time coming for the school.

"We`ve been making the region consistently but it had been since 1996-97 was the last year Garrison has won a game at the region tournament and it`s been 1992-93 since the last time Garrison has played in the championship," Mattheis said.

The championship game should get started by at about 7:30. The winner will play Milnor in the opening round of the "B." Game One will be Trinity and LaMoure.

The evening bracket on March 7 is Cavalier and Trenton.Four Winds, who beat North Star, will play Rugby.
