Blees, Galindo Lead Demons | Video

On the Class A side, Bismarck High is looking to continue its streak of finishing in the top three at the state tournament. If the Demons hope to win another title, they`ve have to knock off the defending champs from West Fargo.

Individually, BHS has a couple favorites at the middle weights in Ryan Blees and Ricky Galindo. Not only are the juniors two of the top wrestlers in the state, they`re also practice partners.

"Just making sure I get my good workouts. I got some decent partners, Ricky Purtle and Jeff Schumacher, the coach, so just getting those good wrestling partners," Blees said.

"I`ve got to be on my game every practice, on and off the mat he makes sure I`m doing good. I`m glad he`s one of my best friends and it helps he`s top ranked in the nation. I can`t think of a better partner," Galindo said.

Before the season started, Galindo wasn`t sure he wanted to wrestle again this winter, but after a couple weeks away from the sport, he realized how much he missed the competition.

"It`s that one-on-one sport. I`m a team player when it comes to team sports, but when it comes to wrestling that mentality it`s you and that other person on the mat, one-on-one. I like that. I like that type of physical demand. I like that."

"He`s an extremely good athlete and a great competitor and we obviously are so happy he came back to our team," said co-head coach Jeff Schumacher.

Both Blees and Galindo are top ranked at their respective weights and undefeated on the season.
