Mandan Boys Basketball Making Progress | Video

Lee Timmerman | 2/8/2013

Mandan made a strong comeback in the second half last night to force overtime, but Century prevailed by three points. The Braves jump right back into conference play tonight with Belcourt in town.

Mandan didn`t start over from scratch this season but pretty close. With that building process in mind, head coach Jason Horner says they`ve made progress in three very important areas.

"First one is the effort part. We needed to learn how to compete at this WDA level. The second one is execution which has slowly gotten better. Our mental mistakes have gotten a little bit better and the third one I think is with the guys getting acclimated to varsity basketball. We`ve has some leaders emerge too and we`ve played some good teams pretty tough and we`ve won some games along the way and we`re just looking tight now to continue to improve," said Mandan coach Jason Horner.

The improvement really does not need to be there until the post-season which is about a month away. The Braves are in the middle of the conference right now.

"I don`t know if top half is a realistic possibility there are four pretty good teams above us right now. We`re hoping to get that four or five see that`s our goal and hopefully toward the tournament we have a good weekend with that first game and see what happens after that," Horner said.

Century, Minot, St.Mary`s and Bismarck are above the Braves in the standings right now.
