Questions for Governor candidates:
1) How do you expect to tackle the issues of housing and infrastructure in western North Dakota?
We have already begun tackling the issues and are seeing tremendous progress. The state allocated $1.2 billion to western North Dakota to address the challenges of growth. The NDDOT will have a huge presence in western North Dakota this year as they continue to expand Highway 85, and complete the many other road improvement projects throughout the region. And, while it's important to remember that construction projects like housing tend to take time, there are thousands of housing units at various stages of construction in the Williston area alone. We also proposed in the special session a new commitment to low-income housing with $15 million in state income tax credits. These challenges in western North Dakota are being met and will continue to be met head on.
2) What will you do to promote increased exports of North Dakota products?
As the former head of the North Dakota Trade Office, North Dakota exports increased roughly 440%. The Trade Office has been very effective in helping our North Dakota exporters be successful and will continue to increase exports under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Drew Wrigley.
3) What can be done to control the escalating price of farmland in North Dakota?
Farmland prices rise and fall with the changing profit picture for North Dakota farmers. Right now the outlook for North Dakota agriculture is very bright.
4) If elected, what legacy would you like to leave behind as Governor?
I would like to be known as the Governor who made great advancements in infrastructure, tax relief, job creation, and support for our schools.
