New Beginnings Campus for DVCC | Video

Julie Leonardi | 3/22/2013

Back in 2011, the Mouse River flood destroyed both 4-plexes used to house Domestic Violence Crisis Center victims. Now, thanks to many big donations, those victims and their children will have a new place to re-start their lives.

The new 4-plex will house four families, and will be part of the “New Beginnings Campus.” The campus will bring transitional living, emergency shelters and the offices all in one place.

I Keating Furniture World employees moved in donated couches, beds, and dressers, as well as household items such as dishes, pots, pans, and cleaning supplies. The next step will be putting up curtains and getting the families moved in by the end of April.

Dena Filler, Director of the Domestic Violence Crisis Center is thrilled by the donations from the community. “The staff is just excited and I know once we start moving families in, it`s going to be more exciting and the women are going to be more thankful to have a place to be.”

Tony Mathson, I Keating Furniture sales associate and member of the DVCC board of directors was happy to see how many people took the time to give back. “It has actually been amazing! It’s a really great thing to be a part of, definitely a wholesome feeling, especially to see everyone come together for the cause, really awesome to see.”

Each room in the 4-plex was sponsored by a different organization.
