Berthold Crash | Video

Amy Fox | 3/15/2013

More nasty winter weather is causing problems out on the highways. Emergency crews were called out at about 2:00 this afternoon for a crash involving a semi truck and two other vehicles. The crash happened on Highway 2 about three miles west of Berthold.

A pickup truck was following a snow plow when they slammed on their breaks due to low visibility, causing the semi behind it to also hit their brakes. At the same time, a van traveling at high speed couldn`t stop and rear-ended the semi.

The highway patrol says icy roads were a factor in this crash.

"You got to slow down even if the speed limit is 70, that`s for ideal conditions,” said North Dakota Highway Patrol Officer Charles Hurteau. “You have to slow down and especially when you come across a snow cloud created by snow plows and you don`t know what`s caused that cloud of snow to be picked up. You must slow down sooner."

One person was injured and was taken to Trinity Hospital in Minot.
