Cold Weather Injuries | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 3/15/2013

With more snow hitting the ground, it could lead to more trips to the emergency room. According to Trinity Health, when the snow falls, they see more people coming into the ER with weather-related injuries.

Minor injuries such as fractures, sprains and strains can be caused just by shoveling or using a snow blower. And it`s not just the older generation that needs to be cautious, ER physician Dr. Jethwa says he sees these types of injuries in all ages.

"Mostly younger people we see fractures in the wrist and shoulders. Older patients mostly have hip fractures and back fractures. And, some of them have head injuries too."

Dr. Jethwa recommends if you have to clear a big driveway, work in intervals. A little bit at a time could help eliminate any cold weather injuries.
