Truck Drivers Pull Together for Baby | Video

Chris Williams | 3/3/2013

Truck drivers in the Bakken are always busy hauling water, oil or pipes. But today, about 30 drivers stopped working and formed convoy that drove all the way around Williston. They were raising money and awareness for Mason Paul-Evans. Mason is only two years old, but has already been through more than anyone should go through in a lifetime.

He was just 23 months old when the unthinkable happened.

"He was beat severely, and brushed from head to toe, got a broken leg, got thrown against the wall. Twenty-three month old baby,” said family friend Arne Wilber.

Mason`s mom, Alexius Paul, is being charged for failing to seek help in a timely manner and her boyfriend Riley Charlo-Whitworth is being charged for the assault. Mason was flown to a hospital in Seattle to be treated for his injuries. He is now back home in Montana, recovering, and living with his grandparents and his dad, Dylan.

"I can`t imagine not being his dad now, it’s an awesome feeling. It`s crazy to think I’m still in high school and a dad but at the same time I could never ask for a better life. I would never change it," Dylan said.

Hospital bills and other fees are starting to pile up. To help pay for some of the expenses, truck drivers in the Bakken decided to get together and help out.

"On this convoy, we`re going to run around the truck route, back through Williston. We`re all meeting back here. Everybody is giving checks, donations," Wilber said.

There were around 30 trucks in the convoy. Most of the drivers don`t know Mason, they just wanted to lend a helping hand, or in this case a truck.

"I got seven kids of my own. It`s the right thing to do, to help this kid. With all the expenses they`re going to acquire," said truck driver Lee Dorney.

Wilber says Mason`s family couldn`t believe so many companies were willing to stop working to help out this cause. Mason has a long way to go in recovery, but doctors say he is doing well.

"What`s really next for mason is a good happy life. That`s the main goal."

On Wednesday, Regal Logistics will be driving all day for Mason, and all of the benefits are going to the Evans family.
