You may not know it, but today is the birthday of someone special. And students across the country are celebrating it by reading. Today is the 16th annual Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Suess`s birthday. More than 45 million readers both young and old are enjoying his books together.

Students at Rita Murphy Elementary are encouraged to "Book It" all year and have earned a unique reward for their efforts.

"The students met their reading goal. Our entire school read over 5,000 books and the goal was to read 3,000. Our principal will be riding the mechanical bull in the gym at an assembly this afternoon," said first grade teacher Pam Passariello.
