House Says No to Private School Funding | Video

Jessica Roose | 2/28/2013

Private schools will not be receiving any funding from the state. The House rejected a bill that would have provided some. Supporters of the bill said public school isn`t for everyone and each parent deserves a choice about where to send a child to school.

Opponents pointed out that the state has never given money to private schools, which they say have high admission standards.

"Public schools must accept anybody and everybody, no questions asked," said Representative David Rust of Tioga. "This bill would have the state dividing money for two separate but unequal systems."

The bill failed by a vote of 63-31.
