Staying Warm | Video

Jerame Novak | 2/19/2013

It`s been a cold winter day with some parts of the state experiencing wind chills in the 30 to 40 below range. With those conditions, we know that going outside can be dangerous. However, children may not be aware of how hazardous it can be.

Todays temperatures were about 30 degrees below the average. With these cold temps, it`s important to make sure your kids are properly bundled up. Dressing your kids in layers is just one thing you can do to keep them warm. It`s also important to limit the time they are outside and keep an eye on your children.

One way to do that, is to bundle up yourself and join your kids outside.

"I think that parents should spend time with their children and this is a great way to pay attention to the signs. If it gets cold out, you`re out there with them and you know how cold it is when you`re outside with your children," said Diana Read with the ND Department of Health.

Another thing you can do is pack an extra pair of gloves with your kids, just in case they lose one.
