Don’t Buy It, Until We Try It: Twin Draft Guard | Video

If you have a drafty door or window, there may be a product out there to save you some money on your heat bill. In this week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It," I tried out the Twin Draft Guard.

During the winter, cold air can come in through windows and doors. Then, you have to crank up the heat, which can get expensive. Well, this may be the answer to your problem. It`s called the Twin Draft Guard. It claims to seal the draft on any door or window.

But, does it actually work? Well, "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It."

As your home or apartment ages, so do its doors and windows. The extra space can become one cold problem.

"With the big weather changes in North Dakota, there`s a lot of things that a person can do to their house to help prevent spending so much money on heating costs,” said Minot Ace Hardware Assistant Manager Guy Stevens.

We wanted to try out the Twin Draft Guard, one of the products on the market to help keep cold air out.

Stevens said, "It keeps the cold air from coming in from beneath your doors. You’re able to open and shut your doors with it instead of removing it every time you want to go outside."

We pulled it out of the package and read through the instructions. There is a little bit of assembly required for the Twin Draft Guard. It comes with a total of four tubes: two of them with connecters and two without. Now, I`m going to recommend you put them along the base of your door or window to determine its length. Once you do that, it may be as simple as connecting the two together. But, for smaller doors, you may have to cut off some of the tube.

"The first one slid in pretty easily,” said Stevens. “After you assemble it, you place it under the door, like this, with one piece of foam on each side of the door and slide it underneath."

To better illustrate the wind, we attached plastic bags to the bottom of the door. As we began to use the hairdryer, the bags didn’t move around with the Twin Draft Guard in place.

"For how much it is, it would actually save you in your heating bill and some of the air movement beneath your doors," said Stevens.

We just got done trying out the Twin Draft Guard. From easy assembly to keeping the cold air out, it was exactly what they advertised on TV.

So, this week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It" earns a thumbs up.
