Cyberchondria | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 1/31/2013

With technology these days, you can find anything on the Internet, even health related issues, but you have to be wary of what you find. If you`ve ever gone symptom surfing, you may not be the only one.

According to Dr. Kristin Chaussee at Trinity Hospital, many of her patients come in with a copy of their diagnosis before they even get their check up. Chaussee says this type of behavior is similar to being a hypochondriac, but in the cyber world. Medical professionals are saying people should not be using the Internet as their doctor.

"Your medical health and your children is life and death. So, if you want to take to proper care of yourself, you need to go to your own doctor and to these legitimate sites without question, it`s just black and white," Chaussee said.

Chaussee says you should not rule out the Internet for information as long you consult your doctor first.
