Twenty-seven witnesses were called to the stand to testify. Prosecution tried to paint a picture of the man accused of the killings. Friends of Sabrina Zephier told the court room how Sabrina had many bruises after Kalmio allegedly beat her.
Sabrina’s best friend, Laura Iverson, had been present during a fight between the two. “He started hitting her and I tried to stop him, but he closed the door, so I went downstairs and called 911.”
Jolene Zephier, Sabrina`s mother, had recently claimed the couple`s baby on her income tax return, which angered Kalmio.
Zephier’s friend, Gloria Carbajal, told the court, “He said if she told on him he would kill her and her whole family.”
William Roberts, a co-worker of Kalmio, had been staying in the same bunk house as Kalmio and his brother. On the night before the murders, he was woken up by a door slamming. “Omar and his brother were outside in the company truck.”
Another witness testified he saw a man running out of Sabrina`s building around 2:30 a.m.
The lack of concrete evidence remains, however, many of Kalmio`s former classmates were asked to testify.
Three witnesses claimed he asked them where he could buy a gun and told one of them what he was going to do with the gun.
“He said he wanted to kill that B, his baby mama,” said Jelimor Jean, a classmate.
The rest of the witnesses on Wednesday continued to help prosecutors paint what they considered to be an accurate picture of Omar Kalmio.
