Kalmio Trial Begins

Opening statements in the Omar Kalmio trial started this morning. Last week, 12 jurors and four alternates were selected. Kalmio pleaded not guilty to murder in the shooting deaths of Sabrina Zephyr, 19, her brother, her mother and her mother`s boyfriend.

Opening statements started at 8:45 this morning at the Ward County Courthouse. Court was delayed because one juror left and now 15 remain.

Assistant State’s Attorney Sean Kasson gave a descriptive on the murder using photos of the scene. Kasson pointed to Kalmio saying the only man capable of the crime was sitting before them.

Defense Attorney Kerry Rosenquist argued that there was no evidence and urged the jury to listen to everything before they make their decision.
