Anti-Discrimination Bill | Video

Jessica Roose | 1/22/2013
A group of state lawmakers wants to pass a bill to strengthen anti-discrimination laws. They want to add sexual orientation to the North Dakota Fair Housing Act and the State Human Rights Act. Supporters say gays and lesbians could be denied the right to rent an apartment or house.

"We have the support from both sides of the aisle and across the entire state. This legislation is a business issue and more importantly a family issue. It`s about creating inclusive, supportive and diverse communities as our state continues to expand and progress," said Grand Forks Representative Kylie Oversen (D).

A similar bill was proposed during the last Legislative Assembly. It passed in the Senate but failed in the House.
