"I always tell my students at the beginning of the year that they would rather take this class when they are still in high school. So, if they decided that they aren`t going to be a chef, it`s a lot cheaper to take it when they are in high school," said teacher Mary Beth Gross.
This isn`t just an ordinary cooking class, the students are running a restaurant. They get a wide range of experience in the kitchen, serving and hosting.
"Basically, we all do a little bit of everything: hosting, waiting, cooking, grilling, baking the fries, all kinds of stuff like that. Basically, it`s kinda to get a gist of the entire experience of how to run a restaurant," said student Allan Ganger.
"We have a chef special. Everyone is a chef one day, where they have their own special meal and we have a whole menu to choose from," said student Drake Ofsthun.
They serve a wide variety of American-style food, such as hamburgers and fries, soups and salads. They are open every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.
"For some of them, they find it`s a little bit harder than they anticipated, and for others it`s their calling," said Gross.
"I thought also being able to be in the culinary class and being able to help run a restaurant or something like this would be helpful if I ever wanted to start my own restaurant," said Ganger.
The restaurant holds approximately 40 seats, so they suggest making a reservation.
The restaurant is open to the students, faculty and the public. To make a reservation, call 857-4543.
