It wasn`t until after World War II that Whittey`s father focused his energy on home appliances. A move that would prove successful for the family owned business. "In fact, I think that`s one of our strengths is that we`re able to offer a wide assortment of models and brands, not just those that`re on sale, but those that may work best with the customer."
Corwin Churchill will soon celebrate 80 years since it opened. Whittey admits, the secret of the store`s longevity is nothing earth-shattering. They offer competitive pricing and have built a loyal client base. "We also have a great working relationship with contractors, both locally and in western North Dakota."
Not only have washers and dryers and everyday appliances become much more energy efficient, Whittey says they`ve also become smarter. For example, this new high tech coffee maker contains more computer power than an original desktop PC.
"Intelligent refrigerators, we`re seeing washers and dryers you can turn on with your smart phone. We`re seeing this more and more."
Whittey says he and his dedicated staff hope to stay open for another 80 years. "The main thing will be to make sure we`re still viable and that we can provide great service to our customers."
Corwin Churchill Appliance is at 309 North Third Street.
