Belcourt Man Sentenced for Involuntary Manslaughter

A Belcourt man who pleaded guilty to hitting someone with his car while under the influence will serve over four years in prison. Koleman J. Gourneau, 30, was sentenced on Monday to four years and nine months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

According to the U.S. Attorney`s office, in October of 2011, Gourneau left a bar on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in his vehicle while under the influence. Shortly after leaving, he hit a person with his vehicle, causing fatal injuries.

In addition to prison, Gourneau will also have to pay a $100 assessment to the Crime Victim`s Fund.
