Semi Catches Fire in Williston | Video

Chris Williams | 1/2/2013

Firefighters in Williston responded to an unusual call late this afternoon when a semi-truck burst into flames. The semi was sitting in a parking lot on 4th St East. People working in a nearby building saw smoke and realized the truck was on fire. The vehicle was not in use when the fire started and no one was inside.

Firefighters used a few hundred gallons of water to put the fire out, but not before the cab was destroyed. The majority of the fire was in the engine compartment, so crews still aren`t sure why the truck suddenly went up in flames.

“It could be anything from electrical to a fuel leak. It`s hard to even speculate until the person can get in and actually look at it and confirm exactly what happened. We know kind of where it started, but it`s a case if figuring out what started it, that`s going to be the issue,” said Williston Fire Chief Alan Hanson.

A few people were checked out for smoke inhalation, but there were no injuries.
