Williston Officials Look Toward 2013 | Video

Evan Kruegel | 1/1/2013

2012 was a successful year for the state`s economy, but it was also a difficult year for oil impacted cities like Williston. The city banned RVs and mobile food vendors, and placed a moratorium on temporary housing within city limits. The regulations were all made in an attempt to move toward a more permanent community. In 2013, the city expects over 2,000 homes to become available, and they hope that will bring families to the area.

"By just having the guy here working, that doesn`t solve our problems as a community. We simply have got to get the teenager here to work in a restaurant, we`ve got to get the spouse here to work at the hospital, we`ve got to get the family here,” said Mayor Ward Koeser.

The city received just over $21 million in energy impact funds during the last biennium. This time around, they`ll be hoping for closer to $40 million from the state legislature.
