Homes damaged by the flood are still in need of construction, but with the temperatures quickly falling below zero, the weather makes it tough for workers to get the job done. Construction companies take certain precautions to help their workers stay safe in this weather. They usually provide a warm space or vehicle to help thaw out hands and feet and encourage workers to dress in many layers.

Jerome Gruenberg, Mattson Construction Estimator, said, “The rule of thumb when it`s zero or above we work and if its zero or below than we typically don`t work. It`s really hard to stay warm when it`s below zero. You lose production and you lose focus on what you should be doing.”

Troy Bragg, Redwood Creek Builder, said, “It`s bundling up, keeping your tools from freezing up. Air compressors, nail guns, they freeze up, so just keeping things warm and trudging along.”

The workers said it`s tough when the weather doesn`t cooperate, because a day they can`t work is a day they can`t get paid.
