Turkey Dinners for Christmas | Video

Chris Williams | 12/24/2012

Many people spend the holidays with friends and family and some of that time is spent eating entirely too much food. Buying presents during the holidays can make money a little tight, so to make sure everyone has a good holiday meal, one grocery store in Williston is giving back.

The Salvation Army in Williston is always busy, especially during this time of year.

"We have people come in just in tears, where something has happened and people you wouldn`t even expect that need help. They`ve come in and something has happened," said Captain Joshua Stansbury with the Salvation Army.

That`s why for the last six years, Albertsons has been helping out during the holidays. Customers make donations when they check out and that money goes right back to the community. With all of the money the store collects, they order turkey dinners that can feed a family of eight. Last year the store collected about $3,000.

When all was said and done this year, they collected around $4,000, which is right around 90 dinners and 90 happy families. The meals are big enough to ensure the families will have leftovers for a few days.

In addition to the dinners, if the family has kids, they are sent home with toys.
