Demolition Education | Video

Julie Leonardi | 12/13/2012

A meeting was held last night to clear up any confusion for Minot homeowners. If you received a demolition order for your flooded home, you need to be proactive.

Last fall 104 demolition orders were sent out and 60 people did not respond. If you received an order you need to decide if you`d like to fix it yourself, or have the city demolish it. If your home is abandoned, you need to follow some rules for the safety of the community.

“If you`ve been issued a demolition order or your home was severely damaged in the flood, you cannot let it sit like that you need to do the minimum requirements according to first district health, like boarding it up, cleaning it out, making sure broken windows and everything are covered, cutting the grass, those sorts of things you want to keep the structure,” said Legal Services of North Dakota staff attorney Breezy Schmidt.

If you still have questions, contact legal services of North Dakota at 1-800-634-5263. Elderly and low income residents will receive free service.
