School Reconfiguration | Video

Kristin Clouston | 12/10/2012

Starting next fall, sixth graders in Bismarck Public Schools will roll up to middle school and ninth graders will attend high school. Thirteen of the district`s 17 schools are at or beyond capacity and Bismarck is expected to get an additional 340 students per year for the next five years. Most of them in the lower grades.

The district is adding two elementary schools and a high school, but needs space before they`re built. A 60 member committee is working on new boundaries and will hold two public forums next month.

The first public forum on the new boundaries will be Thursday, January 10, from 6:30 - 8:30 at Wachter Middle School. The board wants to finalize the boundaries on January 28th.

The board also approved next year`s calendar. School will start two days earlier than last year.
