Welcoming a new baby is an exciting time for any family. But for Nichole Weigel and Jermaine Adams, it was also a scary one. Their daughter, Mya Grace, was born twelve weeks premature. That kept them separated for three months, but all that changed today.

Hearing cries in a Bismarck hospital was one of the best things this family could ask for for Christmas.

"It`s been a long wait," Jermaine said.

The wait started on August 30, after a trip to Sioux Falls to meet with a neonatologist.

"They found that there was abnormal blood flow and she wasn`t growing, she was only measuring the size of a 21 weeker and I was 28 weeks," Nichole said.

So the doctors decided to deliver her, more than 400 miles from home.

"He decided it was too risky to send us to Bismarck. That Mya could potentially die at any time and that we were lucky we made it here," Nichole said.

When she was born, she weighed just one pound, three ounces.

"She`s come a long way. She was pretty sick," Nichole said.

Now, she`s 3 1/2 months old, and tips the scales at five pounds. She was also healthy enough to be moved to Bismarck. But baby Mya was still too fragile for a trip by car.

"Christmas was our wish that we all be in one spot," Nichole said.

So they turned to the air, but insurance wouldn`t cover air transport. Sanford Health stepped up to bring Nichole, who`s also an OB nurse at the Bismarck location, home.

"Words can`t even explain how thankful I am for the people that came through for her like this and the family," Jermaine said.

As for big brother Jayce? His Christmas wish came true. "Better that she`s finally here, that my mom`s finally back."

Mya will stay at Sanford in Bismarck, where the doctors and nurses will keep caring for her, making sure she`s growing and gaining weight like she should.
