Hoeven Speaks on Advanced Education Visas

Jessica Roose | 12/10/2012

Senator John Hoeven wants to make sure that foreign students who earn advanced degrees in the United States are able to stay here and work after graduation. He spoke on the floor of the Senate last week and urged support for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Jobs act which is expected to be voted on in January.

"What we`re talking about is making sure that when we have the engineers and the scientists and the technicians and the mathematicians that graduate from our great universities with doctorate and masters degrees. That they can stay here and help us do it here rather than have it done somewhere else in some other country, that then gets ahead of the United States," he said.

If passed, the measure would allocate up to 55,000 green cards each year to those who qualify.
