Gingerbread Houses for Charity | Video

Julie Leonardi | 12/5/2012

The bakery department at Marketplace Foods in Minot is getting into the holiday spirit by giving back to the community. A team of bakers and cake decorators are decorating gingerbread houses for a cause.

"We decided to make gingerbread houses and let everyone have a good time today at work and just be creative and be able to give back to the community somehow. So we decided that we`re going to give these houses to charity and try to make some joyfulness for some people at this time of the year. That would be good for them," said cake department manager Nyla Stronberg.

The houses will be on display at the grocery store over the weekend and then donated to the Domestic Violence Crisis Center. They hope the houses will help bring happiness and joy to victims of domestic violence.

“Our community needs more giving back and we`re just going to be apart of that and that is a great idea,” said Stronberg.

Not only are these workers giving back to the community, but they`re having fun doing it.

“It`s nice to take a break from the normal orders, orders, orders, and do something that`s fun. I think it’s kind of nice being able to give back to a nice cause especially around the holidays,” said cake decorator Latoya Carpenter.

Donating baked goods is common for Marketplace, but giving away gingerbread houses just might become a new tradition.
