Increase in Ag Export Documents

| 11/30/2012

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture says a large increase in the documentation required for exports is an indicator that the state is exporting more commodities overseas.

"During the recently-ended fiscal year, North Dakota Department of Agriculture issued more than 2,500 phytosanitary certificates," said Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring. "That is 30 percent more than the previous year`s total of 1,974 certificates."

The certificates track inspection of commodities and certify compliance with health standards of the importing countries.

According to this year`s certificates, leading customers include Mexico, Canada, Taiwan, the Dominican Republic, India, Thailand, Pakistan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, Italy and Spain. Some customers, such as Japan, do not require phytosanitary certificates.
