Hope Village Fundraiser in Home Stretch | Video

Julie Leonardi | 11/28/2012

It`s the home stretch for Hope Village`s "50K in 30 days" match grant fund-raiser and they`ve already raised more than $20,000. With only two days left to raise money, Hope Village encourages Minot to continue donating. The total amount raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar.

Steve Carbno, Hope Village coordinator, said checks post marked before December 1 will qualify and he’s thrilled with the overwhelming amount of donations. “The people of Minot continue to support us beyond our wildest expectations. We’re receiving donations from all over the country and today we’ve received about eighteen pieces of mail with checks in them.”

Half the money will go towards the un-met needs committee and the other half will go towards buying material to help restore houses damaged by the flood. If you can’t afford to donate money, you can donate your time as Hope Village will be working through the winter.

Three volunteers traveled all the way from Wisconsin to help fix a house. This is the second time they’re been here helping with Darla Swanson’s home. Gerald Hanson, one of the volunteers, said it’s the personal connection with the homeowner that keeps him coming back.

Hope Village provides the tools to help rebuild. Carbno said having a home fixed by the holidays would be the best Christmas present.
