In this week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It," I tried out Slice O Matic.
They advertise Slice O Matic as a kitchen gadget that will slice your prep time in half. All you have to do is put your favorite vegetable in the built in container, press the handle down and your vegetable is sliced within seconds.
But, does this product actually work? Well, “Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It.”
For Pizza Ranch General Manager Doug Presley, the work day begins just before lunch at 10:00 a.m. with slicing, slicing and more slicing.
"Slicing up the vegetables for the cucumbers, the radishes, and it gets to be kind of time consuming," he said.
Presley is always looking to save time where he can.
"It`s nice to find something that`s a little quicker maybe."
So, we decided to put Slice O Matic to the test. We pulled it out of the box and put it on the counter. The first vegetable we loaded was a cucumber.
When we pressed down, the Slice O Matic moved around on the counter.
“As long as I`m putting a little pressure down on the cucumber, I got a very consistent cut out of it, when normally it`s myself, that`s not going to happen."
Now we`re going to move onto something a little more difficult: the radish. We repeated the same steps, but this time, we had a little difficulty. The same thing happened with the tomatoes.
"Using it for the radishes did not work well and did not give me a uniform slice at all,” explains Presley. “And, for the tomato it was even worse.”
We just got done trying out Slice O Matic. While it did a good job of slicing the cucumber, it didn`t do well for the radishes and tomatoes like advertised on TV.
This week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It,” earns a thumbs down.
When Presley was slicing the tomatoes, the lock on the side of the Slice O Matic actually fell off. When we put the lid back on the Slice O Matic, it does not stay secure in place.
