Inspired Airport Designs | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 11/23/2012

One part of Minot International`s new terminal has been inspired by the historic Gasman Coulee Trestle bridge. Architects working on the plans for the new terminal said they were so fascinated by the structure that they wanted to incorporate it`s design at the airport.

In addition to the trestle, they are taking inspiration from some downtown buildings, the Mouse River and the overall geography of the land.

Airport Director Andy Solsvig says they want people who are flying into Minot to see the terminals as a gateway into the town, starting inside the airport.

"Our direction was to have people recognize and feel Minot. And what our architects did was went around town and looked at structures or buildings that was in the area and tried to tie in some of those things into the terminal design."

They are hoping to have the full design completed by early spring.
