Downtown Minot may be getting a much needed makeover. Senator John Hoeven and a committee met Tuesday to announce that project Imagine Downtown will soon become a reality.

The Economic Development Administration has approved an $18 million grant for the project. The goal is to have a 26 block infrastructure with businesses and a residential area for low and moderate income housing. The grant will help replace streets, curbs, water mains, and lights.

Hoven said, “It’s really about strengthening and making downtown bigger and better than ever. Not just as a place to live including low income housing, but for the business base there, that is the center of town so this is a chance to reconstruct after the flood.”

There is more work to do before the grant is awarded, but the funds for the project have already been set aside.
