U-Mary Band Students Perform at Library | Video

Joel Porter | 11/17/2012

Some band students from the University of Mary were touring around the Capital City performing on Saturday. The students were playing for a roomful of families at the Bismarck Public Library.

The students were showing and telling kids about instruments including brass, percussion, strings and woodwinds.

Even though most of the youngsters aren`t ready to pick up an instrument just yet, U-Mary music teachers say they hope the morning`s concert gets more kids to consider joining the band in a few years.

"We have a lot of music education majors. So this was really nice to play for a younger audience to help them get used to teaching younger kids and younger students and just playing in front of people in general," Director of Percussion Studies Lucas Bernier said.

The U-Mary concert choir and brass ensemble is now preparing for its holiday performance, "Christmas at Mary." They`ll be performing two shows on campus the weekend of December 1st and 2nd.
