Flood Assistance for Low Income Homeowners | Video

The Minot Disaster Recovery Housing Program is now offering help to low income homeowners. Cindy Hemphill, Director of Finance for the city of Minot is hoping to notify individuals in FEMA trailers that they could qualify for help.

“We`re targeting individuals that live in temporary housing units, trying to get them back into their homes and of course this is for low to moderate income individuals,” said Hemphill.

She explained that the program is used to help repair damage in your home if it was destroyed in the June 2011 flood. And if you’ve already started repairs, you’re still eligible.

“We`re not just issuing grants of $60,000, it could be any amount up to $60,000. We have individuals that may just need $10,000 or $15,000 to be eligible and we certainly want those folks to come in also.”

Debroah Siefert, Disaster Recovery Program manager said she encourages individuals to come down to Arrowhead mall to fill out an application, even if they’re not sure if they qualify.

“If you have any questions about what you`re seeing on your application please feel free to call, we`ll walk you through it, if you want to sit down with someone while you fill out the application, we`ll make people available to do that as well.”

First priority goes to individuals over the age of 62 and disabled individuals living in FEMA trailers.

“Once we get all the necessary documentation along with that application, then you`ll be able to have your home inspected for the damages and ultimately have a contractor come out and do the repairs,” said Siefert.
