Fire Danger Still a Concern

| 11/5/2012

According to the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, even though much of the state has received moisture, fare danger is still a threat in some areas, especially the southwest.

"With temperatures forecasted to be in the 40s on the Nov. 9 deer opener, we encourage hunters to use common sense and to exercise caution to prevent fires," said Jeb Williams, North Dakota Game and Fish Department assistant wildlife chief.

While fire is typically not a big concern in November, the department says that the threat exists as long as there is no snow cover. They advise that hunters carry a cell phone, shovels, fire extinguishers, extra water and heavy fabric for putting out accidental fires. They also advise that if a fire is out of control to contact the fire department.

The daily fire danger index can be found on the Game and Fish website. People can also contact their local emergency manager to see what fire restrictions are in place.
