Having Fun on Election Day | VideoAlexander Gorney | 6/12/2012
You may think the only "to do" on election day is to vote or not to vote. But there is a lot more to do than just that.
Fun Idea #1: You can get a break from work to vote!
One North Dakota law says that your work might give you some time off to cast your ballot.
"In North Dakota law there is a provision that encourages employers to allow their employees time off during the day to vote and it`s not mandatory or anything but it`s interesting that it`s been a state law for a long time," said North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger.
All you have to do is ask your boss what the work policy is regarding taking time off to vote.
Fun idea #2: Carpool with friends to vote together
Voting can be intimidating for some if you are by yourself. So just go with a friend. That`s what I did.
So you go and vote. It`s an exciting time. And that leads to number three.
Fun idea #3: Show off to your friends and co-workers that you voted
What better way to be excited about voting then telling your friends. You may interest them into voting as well.
Fun Idea #4: Spread The Word
Many North Dakota residents may not know that today is the day to vote. In North Dakota you don`t even have to register to vote, so what`s the best way to spread awareness to people to let their voice be heard?
Just go on any busy street with a stranger and get their attention."
Fun Idea #5: Throw a party!
Some people almost never miss a vote. Who loves parties? After-voting parties can be a lot of fun. Some friends and I tried it after we voted.
Try these ideas next time around and you might just make election day your favorite day of the year.
