Minot Airport Second Busiest in ND | Video

Rich Wisniewski | 5/17/2012

The summer is here and the sun is shining brightly on the Minot International Airport. Airport Director Andy Solsvig has already made it known that a design for a new terminal is in the works. But before Solsvig and the city can live for the future, they have to be ready for a busy summer.

"Just lots of challenges across the board," said Solsvig.

The airport is coming off another busy month in April. Last month was the second busiest month on record for 2012. The busiest was in March, but the interesting point is that April tends to be a slower month for air travel. However, Minot took less of a dip then the rest of the state.

So far this year, there have been more passengers this year than in Bismarck, which makes Minot the second busiest airport in the state, behind Fargo.

"It`s not that we reached or surpassed these communities, it`s the amount of time we`ve done it in," said Solsvig.

Now that a busy summer season is approaching, one of the major challenges for the past several months has been parking. But through various efforts, that problem has a slight fix.

"Our parking situation is: we have parking!" Solsvig explained.
