Texas` drought could last a total of 30 years according to one climatologist.

Weather patterns in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans could potentially last up to 30 years, according to Texas state climatologist John Nielsen-Gammon.

The good news?

This pattern started 10 years ago, meaning there are only another 20 years left.

"We could be coming out of it if we are lucky pretty quickly or potentially we could be in this drought susceptibility phase for another 15 or more years," Nielsen-Gammon said. "It`s unfortunately impossible to say at this point."

He said he sees a lot of similarities between today`s conditions and the worst drought in the state`s history in the 1950s.

He said now is the time for cities and water suppliers to look at the water they have on hand and determine how long it could last citizens.

He also said that now is the time for individuals to figure out how they can further cut their water use.
