Sawyer Restaurant Fire | Video
11/5/2009
Authorities say a Wednesday night fire gutted the Cowboy Corner Cafe in Sawyer, but the owners of the building are saying that`s not true, and in fact the fire was contained.

A report that was released Thursday morning stated that there was a fire reported at the café around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night. The Ward County Sheriff`s Department said the building was gutted but the concrete block structure was still standing. Owner Koni Aho, told KMOT that the fire was contained to just the attic. It was believed to have started by an exhaust fan and is not considered suspicious.

"There was a mess on the upper level. But the fire was contained. The restaurant part, the downstairs part, that`s all in real good shape," says Sallie Volk, Sawyer Resident.

The business should be open again soon, clean up began Thursday afternoon.
