|Back to School Extravaganza|
|DATES:||8/7/2012 to 8/7/2012|
|For several years, St. Alexius and Kohl’s Cares® has teamed up to bring children in our communities the opportunity to learn more about health and wellness topics. This is especially important, as childhood obesity is a growing problem in our nation. Rain or shine, the event takes place from 2 to 8 p.m.
As in previous years, children will have fun learning health and safety tips before heading back to school. But this year, they are encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animal or doll to “Alex’s Buddy Clinic.” Each child receives a record booklet for their “buddy,” who is then “evaluated” by a St. Alexius nurse or doctor. At the completion of their “exam,” each child receives a medical record booklet for their “buddy.”
“Childhood obesity and child safety are concerns in our nation. Our goal is to educate children and caregivers about living a healthy lifestyle and being safe,” says Gary P. Miller, President and CEO of St. Alexius Medical Center. “This is a great opportunity to bring children, parents and caregivers together for a day of health education and fun activities.”
Other activities include aerobics for kids, educational booths, inflatables, games and races, food and prizes. Children can tour emergency vehicles and meet the men and women who use them, and St. Alexius and Kohl’s Cares® will offer free child identification cards to all children and their parents.
The Back to School Extravaganza takes place in conjunction with Morton Mandan Public Library’s Family Night in the park. Healthy food options and entertainment are available.
Since 2006, Kohl’s has donated more than $147,000 to St. Alexius Medical Center. Other St. Alexius initiatives supported through Kohl’s Cares® include a Pediatric Screening Event, Children’s Fun and Health Day and Summer Fun and Safety Day.
