JULIE SKARET
Producer
While I call the Buckeye State my native state... Bismarck, North Dakota is now home to me!
I grew up in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from the University of Toledo with a Mass Communications degree. Eight years and three major moves later, I am now the 6 and 10 pm newscast producer at KFYR-TV.
I have been producing since I began my professional career in 1999. I began as executive producer in Helena, Montana, for the FOX affiliate. A year later, I was promoted to full-time producer, anchor and reporter at the local NBC station. I also served as assignment editor there, organizing the day's news and keeping the reporters busy. From Montana, I moved to Fargo where I was a full-time producer, anchor and medical reporter for the CBS station. Three years later, I made the best move of my life... to Bismarck, North Dakota!
You may recognize me from my time spent on the television airways in Bismarck. Most recently, I was anchor, reporter and producer for the local CBS station. But the time came for me to make a change in my career. Over the years, I've come to recognize my great interest and enthusiasm for writing and producing. At KFYR-TV, I can now focus my career on creating two daily primetime newscasts.
My love for producing a quality newscast fits hand-in-hand with my passion for practicing journalism ethics. Every day, I make decisions that will have an effect on someone in our community. I take that responsibility very seriously. Balancing out your right to know and the need to know is a challenge, but one that I'm willing to invest in and be criticism for. The day I produce, and ultimately broadcast information that I can't answer to is the day that I've failed as a journalist.
I am the proud winner of several Associated Press awards for writing and reporting and most recently a Teddy Award for “Best Newspiece.” Over the years, I've had the chance to interview quite a few prominent figures both locally and nationally, my favorite being my conversation with Ross Perot, probably because he's my height!
When I'm not creating a newscast, you can find me at home with my husband Steve, camping and fishing with friends, visiting with family or talking on the phone with my nephew William. |
